The Best Way to Clean a Large Object

The Maids Medway • Mar 30, 2013

There are likely some larger items in your home that make house cleaning more complicated. If you try to clean them where they are, you often miss the dusty spots, but they're so awkward! If you have Venetian blinds, large plants, filters, air conditioning window unit pieces, or anything you'd like to get a good scrub on but can't, try this!

Fill your bathtub with warm water and an appropriate cleaner (dish soap or laundry detergent are good, depending on the item). Fill it enough to cover the item if possible, or at least half of the item if not so you can easily rotate and get both sides to get a full clean.

Soak for 2-3 hours. It's a long time, but it will be worth it. When you come back to clean, it won't take a lot of effort to get things clean because the water and soap will have loosened the dust and dirt. Note: if you're just trying to clean the dust off of a plant, there's no need to soak. Go ahead and wash the vase that's in the bathwater, then run the shower over the leaves!

Scrub. This part will be easy. Take a cloth and start cleaning hitting all of the dirtiest, dustiest spots.

Drain & Rinse. When you're done cleaning, drain the tub, then run the shower over everything to rinse it of dirt and soap. Take your item out and either dry it with a towel or lay it out in the sun to dry before using it. You might want to do a final rinse of the bathtub in case any of the dirt has deposited on your bathtub.
