Keeping Sand Out of Your House This Summer

The Maids Medway • May 29, 2013

Whether you’re spending time at the beach, the lake, or your kids just love the sandbox, there’s sand to be found everywhere this time of year. It can make house cleaning a serious chore, but in your own home or in your beach house, there are a lot of things you can do to keep sand from taking over your house this season!

Shoes Off! If your kids are coming home from the playground with shoes full of sand, this is going to be your best way to stop it. Start a “shoes off!” policy in your home. Get your children in the habit of taking their shoes (and socks!) off outside and dumping out the sand.

You can even leave a small basket on the porch for sandy socks so they can all be washed at once without tracking sand through the house.

The Water Hose. It’s a tried and true classic: the water hose is perfect for getting sand off of wet kids (and adults who act like kids!). Keep the water hose near the door and ask your family to wash themselves off before they enter.

It doesn’t hurt to hang a towel by the door, as well; to keep those freshly-washed feet from tracking water through the house!

Sand Room. Do you have a beach front house? Being that close to the beach definitely encourages sand in the house. Thankfully, you have some control over your space! If you have the resources, you can create a sand room at your back door.

Build a small room with a shower, hooks, and curtains that will allow your guests to wash the sand off, change their clothes if they need to, and dry off before coming into the house.
